چکیده
Abstract Schistosomiasis, a neglected tropical disease, affects millions of lives and accounts for thousands deaths each year. The Schistosoma parasites depend on two hosts during their lifecycle: snails as intermediate human beings definitive hosts. Therefore, to control ultimately eliminate schistosomiasis relies the reduction snail populations well prevention treatment infections. Praziquantel is primary drug treatment, although it considered safe efficacious, concerns exist regarding emerging resistance due mass administration. For this reason, novel antischistosomal drugs are in need genus Artemisia might be promising source. Notably, species not only have been evaluated effects against parasites, but also molluscicidal vectors. Extracts afra seem most active, with IC 50 values comparable positive control, praziquantel. antimalarial artemisinin, obtained from A. annua , its semisynthetic derivatives artemether, artesunate, artemisone both schistosomes Artemether artesunate found notably active adult juvenile stages schistosomes, whereas was shown effective treating harboring schistosomes. Artemisinin other hand combination praziquantel presents good lead curing schistosomiasis. Graphical

Phytochemical constituents of Artemisia stolonifera.
Repeated column chromatographic separation of the CH2Cl2 extract of Artemisia stolonifera (Asteraceae) led to the isolation of a triterpene (I), a sesquiterpene (II), two aromatic compounds (III and IV) and a benzoquinone (V). Their structures were determined by spectroscopic means to be simiarenol (I), (1S,7S)-1beta-hydroxygermacra-4(15),5,10(14)-triene (II), 3'-methoxy-4'-hydroxy-trans-cinnam...
متن کاملDrugs for treating urinary schistosomiasis
BACKGROUND Urinary schistosomiasis is caused by an intravascular infection with parasitic Schistosoma haematobium worms. The adult worms typically migrate to the venous plexus of the human bladder and excrete eggs which the infected person passes in their urine. Chronic infection can cause substantial morbidity and long-term complications as the eggs become trapped in human tissues causing infl...
